Frequently Asked Questions

We have gathered the most common questions about visiting the São Mamede de Ribatua Walkways.

Geral

No. Entry to the São Mamede de Ribatua Walkways is completely free. Even so, we recommend making your free booking to help us manage visitor numbers.
Booking is not compulsory, but it is recommended and free. It helps us manage visitor numbers and allows you to receive useful information by email.

Percurso

The trail is about 3.5 km (7 km there and back) and takes, on average, between 2 and 3 hours, depending on your pace and your stops to enjoy the scenery.
The difficulty is moderate. There are hundreds of steps and areas of uneven ground, with an elevation change of roughly 200 metres. It requires a degree of fitness, especially on the climb back up.
It is not necessarily circular. You can do it as a linear route (there and back along the same trail) or opt for a circular return, combining it with the PR18 from Alijó and avoiding the climb up the stairways.

Acesso

The starting point is the Jardim das Laranjeiras (Orange Tree Garden), in São Mamede de Ribatua, next to the Roman bridge. There you will find free parking.
Because of the stairways and uneven ground, the trail is not suitable for wheelchairs or for those with severely reduced mobility. Please contact us for specific information.

Recomendações

Yes, provided it is kept on a lead at all times and you clean up after it. We ask that you respect the wildlife, especially nesting birds.
Spring and autumn are the ideal seasons: mild temperatures, more water in the stream and landscapes at their finest. In summer, prefer early morning or late afternoon.
Closed walking shoes with good grip, plenty of water, a snack, a hat and sunscreen. There are no support facilities along the trail.
