Opened in 2026, the São Mamede de Ribatua Walkways descend the stream over hundreds of steps, revealing a steep-sided valley of cliffs, waterfalls and lush vegetation all the way to the Tua reservoir.

No. Entry to the São Mamede de Ribatua Walkways is completely free. Even so, we recommend making your free booking to help us manage visitor numbers.
The trail is about 3.5 km (7 km there and back) and takes, on average, between 2 and 3 hours, depending on your pace and your stops to enjoy the scenery.
The difficulty is moderate. There are hundreds of steps and areas of uneven ground, with an elevation change of roughly 200 metres. It requires a degree of fitness, especially on the climb back up.
It is not necessarily circular. You can do it as a linear route (there and back along the same trail) or opt for a circular return, combining it with the PR18 from Alijó and avoiding the climb up the stairways.
The starting point is the Jardim das Laranjeiras (Orange Tree Garden), in São Mamede de Ribatua, next to the Roman bridge. There you will find free parking.
Yes, provided it is kept on a lead at all times and you clean up after it. We ask that you respect the wildlife, especially nesting birds.
