Miradouro de Casal de Loivos

At around 490 metres above sea level, in the historic village of Casal de Loivos, one of the most iconic panoramas in the whole Upper Douro Wine Region opens up. From this viewpoint you can see the bend of the River Douro in front of Pinhão, with the slopes covered in vineyard terraces forming a perfect amphitheatre down to the water's edge.

The landscape has repeatedly been recognised as one of the most beautiful in the world, featuring prominently in international publications and reports. It impresses at any time of day, but it is at dawn and sunset, when the low, raking light accentuates the terraces, that it reaches its full splendour.

Located in the municipality of Alijó, a few minutes' drive from Pinhão, it is an almost essential stop for anyone exploring the region and a natural complement to a visit to the walkways and viewpoints of the Tua Valley.
