Miradouro do Ujo

An iron balcony suspended over the Tua Valley

São Mamede de Ribatua, Alijó  ·  a 4 km from the walkways

Rising above the hillside that overlooks the Tua reservoir, the Miradouro do Ujo has become one of the most photographed viewpoints in the Tua Valley Regional Nature Park. Its metal structure, designed to appear to float over the abyss, projects visitors out beyond the slope and offers an almost aerial view of the river winding far below.

From here you can take in a long stretch of the valley, marked by the contrast between the serene water of the reservoir and the slopes covered with vines, cork oaks, olive trees and orange trees. The light changes throughout the day and completely transforms the landscape, so many visitors return in the late afternoon to watch the sunset.

Set beside the road between São Mamede de Ribatua and Safres, it is an essential stop for anyone walking the walkways, just a few minutes' drive from the centre of the village.

Visiting tips

  • Visit in the late afternoon to catch the best light over the reservoir
  • Wear comfortable shoes and approach the suspended platform with care
  • Combine your visit with the São Mamede de Ribatua walkways trail
  • Bring a camera or a charged phone: it is one of the most Instagrammable viewpoints in the Tua Valley
